Role Overview
We are looking for a Financial Controller working 20 hours a week, over at least four days.
The owners work as directors in the business, and we are keen to find a pro-active finance professional who will make a genuine commercial contribution, helping to drive our steady profit level upwards. The role reports to the Managing Director.
Our income comes from system licences, annual support contracts and professional services. Services include web design/development, client specific ERP development and implementation work. As well as delivering rigorous financial control, the Financial Controller should equip the business to deliver financial improvements. This will include providing insightful information to the services teams, such as a comparison of hours worked to hours sold with the aim of increasing the hourly rate achieved.
Job Specification
In addition to your commercial contribution, you will be responsible for:
- Overseeing the work of the HR and Office Administrator who does the daily banking, credit control, billing of support contracts and running of the purchase ledger
- Monthly billing of projects and ad hoc billing of "as used" services
- Creation and sense checking of contract order confirmations, in conjunction with customer services
- Responding to customer software licence queries and issuing quotes for additional software licences
- Preparation of Monthly Board Packs and other financial and business information
- Quarterly VAT returns
- Preparation of annual Financial Statements and information for the corporation tax return and dealing with auditors
- Preparation of annual Business Forecasts
- Cash flow management
- Processing monthly payrolls and HMRC returns
- All aspects of HR such as handling confidential staff matters and preparing contracts
- Office Management tasks, including managing corporate and health insurance policies and electricity and mobile phone contracts
The ideal candidate will:
- Be a qualified accountant
- Have worked in a business administration/accounting role for at least five years
- Have understanding of PAYE, VAT and corporation tax rules, ideally having prepared returns to HMRC
- Have used financial accounting packages and Microsoft excel
- Be commercial, organised and tenacious, with an eye for detail
