how they are using Business Intelligence (BI): "We're
still at an early stage of benefiting from this powerful
technology,
but thus
far
the results have been impressive.
As
in most companies there are a couple of us who have created
a number of cubes and dimensions, then we 'farm those out'
so that a variety of people then utilise those for analysis.
We're
working
hard
at the
moment
on finding
out what our peoples reporting and analysis needs are and
then we can set up BI to meet those needs.
Perhaps the biggest benefit for us of Business Intelligence has been in terms for feedback data where we can capture information from the shopfloor and quickly link it to data already stored in de Facto S5, for instance we can now easily measure into which product groups we are putting the most manufacturing resource into. This is so easy to do in S5's Business Intelligence. Previously we had to use a standalone product to pull this information together.

It also enables us to build lightening quick ad hoc reports that can run without taxing the performance of our servers as all the data cubes that collate our information are refreshed to schedule overnight. The reports themselves are quick and easy to build as their structure is already in place, so a report that we would previously spend a lot of time to create now takes a matter of seconds.
As well as
ease of use, the information is now all within de Facto S5
itself, helping to ensure the accuracy
of our data. We set this up in BI ourselves, with a
little help from De Facto, and now our team can run
it whenever they want, so the information is highly
accessible.
The
second major benefit has been within the area of Product
Group analysis. It's so easy to analyse data in terms of
product group, sales, sales representative, customer, or
by margins, by period or even by individual item. We can
clearly see our gross margins (GM's) on each product. This
has helped us a lot in terms of budgeting and forecasting.

Business Intelligence is already used by many of the important
people within our company, including our Financial Director.
