D & F McCarthy
D & F McCarthy are a wholesale distribution business of Fresh Fruit and Vegetables. The company works with a large number of suppliers, ranging from small market gardeners to major importers.
The company was founded in 1877 by Thomas McCarthy who emigrated from Ireland to London and had a fruit stall in Drury Lane. The family took their summer holidays in Great Yarmouth and towards the end of the 19th century his son Daniel settled there and started up a fruit & vegetable business.
Over 125 years each generation has been involved in the business and now Martin, Simon, David and Peter have become the fifth generation of the family actively engaged in the running of the company. In 2009 the first representative of the sixth generation, Simon’s son Daniel, joined the firm.
Distribution and Manufacturing
The requirements of a new system needed to be tailored to McCarthy’s sector and accurate management of stock was a crucial requirement to be met. Stock handling is at the heart of McCarthy’s business, complimenting this in the Distribution and Manufacturing module, stock management is the hub in which all the software’s other processes work. McCarthy know that they are able to rely on the accuracy of the system.

McCarthy have been able to take real advantage of this in the way that the system handles multiple price lists and gives them the ability to offer and match price lists to particular customers. Being in the food industry, McCarthy needed a system which could handle the fluctuation of fresh produce and De Facto ERP’s ability to manage catchweights is an essential part of the daily use of the system.
